Richmond here to stay

Adam Bell  Monday, June 04, 2001  07:58 GMT

Geoffrey Richmond says he is only halfway through his chairmanship at Valley Parade and he is desperate to establish the club in the Premiership. The City chairman has had more than his fair share of problems both on and off the field in the last 12 months, but he has now put his health problems behind him and is keen to take the club forward. He said: "My ambition over the next six or seven years - I consider myself to be at the halfway point of my chairmanship - is to get back into the Premier League, establish ourselves and take the capacity to 35,000. "On the day I walk away, I want to be able to say that the club is in better shape - in every respect - than when I first came here." Richmond has also revealed that he will not be proposing any more redevelopment at Valley Parade until City get things right on the field. He told the Yorkshire Post: "There will be a complete halt on further ground improvement until we are back in the Premiership and established there."
