Lemm's Two FacedMark Lemm Wednesday, February 13, 2002 13:03 GMT
Mark Lemm was the hero as Reading YMCA 5's grabbed a vital win in their clash against fellow title hopefuls, Face Events. YM suffered a blow before kick off as Andy Bullett pulled out with a hamstring injury but were given a boost as Lynsey Edwards managed to resume his goalkeeping duties after initial fears that he would also be unavailable. Left with the bare 5, YM started confidently and whilst goal chances were at a premium, Face Events struggled to break down a Mark Lemm-marshalled defence. After a goaless first half, Steve Woodrow found himself one-on-one with the Face keeper and burst the back of the net with a trademark thunderbolt. YM continued to look solid but were undone by an accurate angled shot from a Face player which sneaked inside the far post. With just 4 minutes left, YM refused to panic and their patient build up play paid dividends when Woodrow closed down the Face keeper only for the ball to fall to Lemm who slotted home an ice cool finish with his left foot to secure a 2-1 victory. Reading YMCA 5's have now won their last 4 league games and enter a crucial period as they face contenders Sporting Club, Greens in the Cup, a potential Cup quarter final and third placed, Kaizo. Manager Lemm warned "I'm proud of the way my boys have performed recently but it means nothing if we don't perform over the next 4 games. I'll settle for nothing less than silverware this season."
