3 more points v Sovereign

Frank Smith  Sunday, February 10, 2002  19:29 GMT

Following last week's success, Pinocchio FC were looking to avenge the 3-0 home defeat suffered at the hands of Sovereign in January. The start did not got to plan, as a shot on 5 minutes deflected off Kevin and wrong footed Frank, gifting Sovereign a soft lead. Ben made a big effort, out muscling the Soveriegn centre-half, and finished well to bring Pinocchio level.
Koki then made it 1-2 with a cool finish into the bottom right hand corner. Damo was unlucky when a curling shot was turned away by the Sovereign keeper. Half time 1-2.
The second half started with Pinocchio playing better football. After some Sovereigm pressure, a sixty yard through from Frank caused mayhem in the Sovereign defence, leaving Ben with an open goal to make it 1-3. Koki was unlucky when a good shot came back off the inside of a post. Sovereign continued to pile forward without creating too much danger, until Kevin brought down a forward in the box. Frank guessed the right way, but could only push the ball into the roof of the net. At 2-3, Pinocchio still looked comfortable, with Geoff shaving the post with a header, before Ben completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish. As Sovereign piled forward, both sides looked likely to add to the score. In the last ten minutes Pinocchio failed to deal with a corner, and Sovereign made the score tighter than the game warranted. No more scoring was done, and Pinocchio FC took another step towards league safety. Final score: 3-4
