Elliot Hutchinson - Cox  Sunday, June 09, 2002  14:15 GMT

Japan`s first ever win in a World Cup finals. Russia saw Japan dominate the game as most of Russia shots were off-target. The Russia manager complained about the ball as had TV Pundits. See our news report on Fevernova ball. Russia played the first-half in fine manor. They nearly took the lead but Titov`s shot was well saved by Japanese goalkeeper, Seigo Narazaki. Half-Time Score - Japan 0 - 0 Russia - Japan started the second-half much better than the first and went ahead on 51 minutes when Shinji Ono played a chipped through ball to Junichi Inamoto who blasted the ball into the back of the net as he scored his second goal in two games! Russia nearly equalised when substitute Vladimir Beschastnykh rounded the Japanese goalkeeper, only to find the side-netting. The referee blew his whistle for full-time, 15 seconds early. Russia are going to make a complaint to Fifa. Final Score - Japan 1 - 0 Russia - Our Man of the Match - Seigo Narazaki - Your Man of the Match - Vote on our new poll!
