U10's in 3-0 win over AspullLee Ormson Sunday, February 03, 2002 16:50 GMT

Aspull 'Yellow' 0 - 3 Red Rose Juniors
This match was played on Astroturf at the Reebok Arena in the shadow of Bolton's Reebok stadium.
On a surface that was almost like grass compared to most other artificial surfaces, Red Rose got off to a promising start with R.Lawrenson making some good runs down the right wing.
Although the first 10 minutes saw Red Rose with most of the possesion, they were unable to convert it into goals. It was then that Aspull began to play some good passing football which nearly resulted in the opening goal. Only M.Mcmahon's point blank save denied the Aspull player after he had been clean through on goal.
Despite the strong wind, both teams were passing the ball well, but half time arrived with the scores still goaless.
Red Rose started the 2nd half looking for a quick goal that they could build on, but a strong Aspull defence were working hard keeping them out. Aspull themselves were posing a threat and should really have took the lead when another one on one was once more kept out by keeper M.McMahon.
Red Rose came back strong and when J.Seaward was sent through on goal, he calmly kept his cool to finish well putting Red Rose 0-1 in front.
The Red Rose defence were having to work hard in order to clear their lines as Aspull went looking for an equaliser, but it was at the other end where the next goal came when L.Dixon strode forward with the ball before letting loose with a great strike that finished up in top corner. The score now 0-2.
With 5 minutes remaining, J.Seaward cut in from the left before hitting a low shot that landed nicely in the far corner to score his 2nd and his teams 3rd of the match.
The whistle went shortly after and Red Rose came off the pitch happy after what had been a tough game. Hard luck to Aspull who worked well as a team and were unlucky not to grab at least a goal had they put away their earlier chances.
Several Red Rose players had good games today with J.Seaward posing problems for the Aspull defence out on the left wing and L.Dixon his usual busy self in the middle of the park. The Red Rose defence also worked hard throughout the match. But, the player of the Match goes to keeper M.McMahon for his 2 vital saves that, had they gone in, could have seen a different outcome to the game.
