It's just like watching Brazil!Gary Burman Wednesday, April 11, 2001 21:03 GMT
Broadsands Park Rangers 2 AC Santos 1
Burman G
Deane M
For a change BPR played in mild conditions, and for a change they played against a team that played high tempo football that suited the young squad BPR had out for this tough game. AC Santos playing with three ex Torquay United players gave BPR a real test of stamina by the way they knocked the ball around. BPR opened well but were kept to long-range shots and found the Santos keeper Scott Legg in good form. It was not until the twentieth minute before BPR broke the deadlock. The goal came after good work by the Burman brothers on the left, before Gary took it past four of their players to hit the target for a change. The way AC Santos pulled the BPR team around led to them being susceptible to the fast break, but they were denied by excellent saves made by a returning Jon Pressling. Both teams created chances a plenty as both teams were playing open football in a fast competitive game. The AC Santos goal came five minutes into the second half when BPR fell a sleep at the corner allowing them to score. It was not until the last five minutes when Matthew Deane ran through to coolly slot home his 37th of the season. This was a great team performance with all the players raising their game.
