BLANDFORD HMR FC END OF SEASON TROPHY PRESENTATION EVENING...SATURDAY 13th APRIL 2002...BRYANSTON ESTATE CLUB
So, the end of the season has come and gone and that meant the End of Season awards had to be handed out! A good turn out at Bryanston, only a couple of absentees and those missing had good excuses.. mostly! It was nice that those present made the effort and I know that a good time was had by all there.
Over twenty were present and we were divided up into two skittle teams....'captained' by Humpie and Phil. Those that play the game regularly were split up evenly and it was obvious to the rest of us that they could play!! But most, if not all, of the rest of us had some good throws...although there were a couple of 2's and 3's also! Top scorer of the night was Banksie with 56 and dear old Humpie was lowest with 31 [ I think?]. Phil's team triumphed in the end by about 20 points??? Thanks to Jerry for donating the bottles of bubbly. And to young Sam for sticking up all night. And to Humpie for scoring!!!
STEVE 'HUMPIE' HUMPHRIES...CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR!!
Onto the awards themselves.... first one of the night went to CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR. This went to STEVE HUMPHRIES...for the fact he has turned up week in and week out, ran the line more than anyone, not always got on the pitch and very rarely moaned about it! I hope that everyone appreciates his efforts for the club.
Next was the GOLDEN BOOT AWARD... this was a very fiercely contested award and the top five were...in reverse order...ANDY LONG: 4... GLEN BARNETT: 5...PHIL WATKINS: 9...JAMES BANKS: 10... AND THE WINNER...JAMIE KNIGHT with 11. This was impressive considering J played quite a few matches as sweeper, although Banksie had to play in goal a few times and Phil had his op earlier in the season. So well done to the top three and we hope you can all improve on those totals next season.
Next award..MANAGERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR...Lloyd and myself agreed unanimously on this. JAMES BANKS has played up front most of the season and worked his nuts off for the team...he has also gone in goal on a number of occasions and played well,,,and he has never moaned about any of it. This attitude is what is needed by any Manager by all his players and Banksie was a true team player all season.
BANKSIE AND JAMIE....WINNERS OF AN AWARD EACH
Finally, the award for PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR. Again, this was a very keenly contested trophy. Players that received at least one vote were: Phil, Younger, Jerry, Tank, Andy Long, Banksie and Glen. The latter three were all tied until the very last vote was cast strangely enough! And that last vote went to...GLEN 'PIRES' BARNETT. Comments made by voters included that Pires had gotten better in every game, that he had impressed in his first season as a Sunday League player and that he had been consistent after a slow start. Glen also reminded us in his speech that he had scored the best goals too!! From my personal point of view, I think we have much more to come from the lad! I hope this award will inspire him to be the player he can be. He has the power and the pace, also the stamina, to be a top player. All he needs to do is now BELIEVE the hype!!...and to use all those attributes to make sure he makes life hell for those dodgy right backs!! Well done mate!
So...the first ever HMR trophies are handed out and I hope you all had a nice evening. Photo's will be posted here as soon as possible.
WELL DONE TO ALL PLAYERS WHO PLAYED FOR THE CLUB THIS SEASON AND LET'S TRY AND MAKE OURSELVES BETTER FOR 2002/3!!!
