Rye House, Mildenhall and Newport all enjoyed a succesful bank holiday weekend with victories in their home fixtures in all three major competitions in the Conference League season.
Newport followed up their home win over Peterborough in the league recently with a second successive home victory today, beating favourites Somerset 48-42 in the KO Cup First Round. Shane Colvin top scored on his debut for the Mavericks with 17 and was ably backed up by Scott Pegler with 15+3. The Rebels were severley hampered without Jarno Kosonen and Peter Jeffery because of the "old hands" rule and Steve Bishop is out injured. Instead, Jamies Holmes, signed during the winter from Newport, top scored for them with 14+1.
Rye House clinched 3 points out of five in their 2-legged Trophy clash with Boston over Sunday and Monday, winning 97-82 on aggregate. In the first leg at Boston, the home side won 48-42 with Boast top scoring with 9+1 while the Rockets were led by David Mason and Simon Wolstenholme with 12 and 15 respectively.
The second leg this afternoon saw the Rockets win the meeting 55-34, with Mason and Wolstenholme again the top two pairing with 13 and 10+2, while reserve Daniel Gifford pitched in with 9. The Braves stand out rider was Luke Clifton with 14.
Mildenhall won their first league match of the season by beating Peterborough 48-41, thanks to Phil Knowles with 12+1 and the return of Barrie Evans with 11+2. The Pumas put up a good fight and Ian Barney notched up 15 on his old track, Schramm added 13+2 and Jason King did well with 9.
