Hackney 15 - 10 Upper Clapton

Howard  Friday, April 13, 2001  20:36 GMT

Hackney were triumphant for the first time in 2001 as they won a tense tussle on a rain soaked pitch thanks to a dominant second half display.
A heavily waterlogged pitch meant it was tough going for both teams but it was Clapton who adapted the quicker, after poor defending by the hackney backs allowed the visitors to take the lead with an unconverted try.
However it seamed to kick start the Hackney forwards into life and following a brief spell of pressure they equaliised through Simon Ferguson.
But Upper Clapton soon regained the initiative and took a 10-5 lead into the break.

The second half was a much more open affair and the conditions contributed to a series of mistakes and missed chances by both sides. Hackney slowly began to take the ascendency and were eventually awarded a penalty just ten meter short of the line. An inventive quick tap penalty was take and ski crashed over for his first try for the club in over twelve years
Hackney soon began to dominate the Scrums and it was not long before Phil Smith broke forward and he supplied Robins who Ran the ball over the line.

The back row of Nimms, Farmer and Berlin all shone as Hackney produced and exellent all round performance.
