1st Division - Woombye in vital win over BuderimSimon Kemp Wednesday, July 11, 2001 05:47 GMT
Woombye 2 -v- Buderim 1
Goalscorers: Peter Woods (21st min), Jason Smart (35th min)
Woombye put themselves right back into the finals race with a superb victory over Buderim on Saturday.
Woombye went a goal down early after a scramble in the box lead to a Buderim goal.
However Woombye settled and responded and equalised through a very cool Peter Woods finish after a lovely through ball from Ben Macauley.
Woombye were dealt a blow when defender Mal Cross left the field with an ankle injury, however Josh Back did a very good job as a substitute in his first, first grade game on the Sunshine Coast.
Woombye took the lead when Jason Smart broke through the Buderim defence and calmly slotted the ball under the oncoming keeper.
The scoreline was 2-1 at the break and it remained that way throughout the rest of the game as Woombye put on a strong defensive display with David Coleman-Mann leading the way at the back and Kevin Milne in fine form in goals.
Buderim's best chance came from a spectacular bicycle kick from Sheffield Wednesday trialist Daniel Angelucci who produced something that Rivaldo would have been proud of, however the brilliance of Kevin Milne denied Angelucci the goal and Buderim didn't get closer.
