Essex bow out of B&H cup with a winBen Sullivan Tuesday, May 08, 2001 21:54 GMT
Essex yesterday defeated Middlesex to gain back some pride after already being knocked out of the Benson and Hedges Cup after defeats against Kent and Surry previously.
Essex scored a total of 232 from their 50 overs, with Peters gettin 48, Cowan 45, and Nasser Hussain with 41. They had no trouble defending that total, and New Zealander Fleming was the only threat. Despite Fleming's 73 of 105 balls, Middlesex managed just 161 before being all out with 8 overs to spare.
Pick of the bowlers was Mason, he picked up 3-40, with spinner Grayson 2-24, Irani 2-25 and McGarry 2-34.
So a slight consilation after a few poor performances, and Irani's men will hope to build on this
