Creditable draw gainedBy observer Saturday, June 30, 2001 07:46 GMT

The latest midweek match saw us gain a creditable draw against a useful Aldwick side from Sussex. The visitors batted first and good accurate bowling from Alan Marriott and Dene Richards saw them at 40-2 off 19 overs. Then the visitors Aussie and Kiwi imports entered the scene and boosted the scoring rate rapidly, eventually ending on 208-5.
Our reply began with a 45 opening stand between Pete Bonser and James Thorn before the latter was dismissed. Bonser held the innings together with a typically solid 58, with good support from Simon Berendt and Richard Webb, before he was dismissed 3 overs from the end. The tail held out comfortably as we finished on a creditable 141-7.
A very enjoyable game which we hope will be repeated next season.
