MANOR COLLEGE TEAM BEAT THE ODD'SAndy Swallowe Thursday, June 28, 2001 22:39 GMT
For the first time a girls team from the north of the city has been formed with the assistance of our club. The Manor Community College entered a girls football team into a recent schools tournament held at Swavesey Village College.
After winning their group without conceeding a goal they progressed to the semi finals and beat Meridian School 1-0.
Their opponents in the final were Netherhall (A) whose team consisted of Cherryhinton Crusader's and Cambridge United players a majority of whom attend the perfomance centre.
Unbeaten since the tournament began a couple of years ago Netherhall started as hot favourites.
After a really competitive game and a great save from the Manor's goalie Verity the score was 0-0 and went into extra time and golden goal. The ball was crossed from the left and our forward Stacey slotted the ball home to win the game and tournament.Manor did not conceed a goal throughout the tournament which gives credit to
a fantastic team performance.Congratulations to Kirsty and Stacey for scoring two goals each.
