Season Ends With A WinWhite Boy With A Feather Tuesday, May 08, 2001 09:51 GMT
St Ignatious 1 v Battyeford Res 4
Battyeford finsihed their successful season with a comfortable win in an unneccesarily bad temepered game.
Ignatious seemed intent on kicking anything that moved, despite being safe from relegation after their defeat of Howden Clough on Thursday.
Late tackles and off the ball confrontations marred the game early on, but Battyeford rose above Ignatious and scored early through Jon Turton, who tapped home after a long range Rogerson shot was spilt by the old tw@t in the goals. Turton should indeed have already scored, after he was put through one on one, but he fired inches wide.
Battyeford increased their lead when debutant Chris Jackson curled in a cracking 20 yard shot into the top corner, but casual play at the back gave Ignatious a goal, when Shaw and Dolby were caught out.
The second half was all Battyeford with Rogerson unselfishly attempting to pass to Glewghorn when he had an open goal. Still, 3-0 was soon to arrive when Barrett crossed from the right and Turtons header was palmed into the net by the crap keeper.
Ignatious could have scored when Bruce fouled in the area, but the penalty was quite simply one of the worst ever taken, it snot bobbled harmlessly wide after a laughable scuff by the arrogant tosspot who took the penalty.
Leigh Merryman then pulled out a world class save after a goal mouth scramble left the striker with a thunderbolt shot from 5 yards that Merryman somehow unbelievable clawed wide.
Barret hit the bar, but scored with a scorching drive to kill off Ignatious 4-1.
The game ended with Ignatious' George Daws look-a-like childishly nipping Tracey and causing an unneeded confrontation before being reminded that he was a 'big Golah' and told to pick his rattle up.
Pickford's men claimed all three points and left the manager delighted, as the team one all but one game, a draw, under his sole stewardship.
