Friday, 2 November, 2001 7.30 for 8.00 p.m. Buffet served 8.30 - 10.00 p.m. Carriages at 2.00 a.m. Tickets £30.00 each (£280.00 for a table of 10) Dear Friends, You are invited to join Devizes RFC as it celebrates the first annual ball of the new millennium. This follows fairly rapidly in the wake of the 70th anniversary celebration ball, held in February. T hose who attended that evening will have enjoyed a memorable evening, which featured great music, good food and a convivial atmosphere. This ball set the standards for all future Devizes Rugby Club balls. The organising committee has set a target to better last February's occasion: better music, better food and an even more convivial atmosphere should all add up to another evening to remember. The annual Rugby Club ball has become a major event on the Devizes social calendar. If you are a player, spectator, member of the Sports Club or simply a friend to the club and the town of Devizes, you will receive a warm welcome. Last February's ball was a sell-out, so I urge you to get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT Bob Jones and his quartet will open the evening's music. Bob's quartet is a versatile group, who can perform anything from traditional jazz to swingtime. They will entertain you during the early part of the evening and throughout the meal, helping to get you in the mood for dancing and tempting you on to the floor for a dance between courses. The disco has its first set at 9.30 pm. Their aim will be to get everyone on the dance floor and in party spirits. At 10.00 pm the curtains will open for the amazing King Swingers. This 9 piece swing band includes a 4 piece horn section, percussion, keyboard, guitar, bass and vocalist. Their repertoire is a collection of songs spanning many decades, all played by the King Swingers in their own inimitable style. This forms a superb blend of old and new, which creates a truly swinging party atmosphere that is appealing to all ages. The Queen Mum, after seeing them perform, was heard to remark "They're as crazy as a bag of spoons". They will be playing 2 sets and are bound to leave you begging for more after their first. The disco will continue the entertainment for a second set, promising to play something for everyone. This will be followed by another chance to enjoy and dance to the wonderful sound of the very special band 'The King Swingers'. Finally, the disco will bring the evening to a close. This promises to be a memorable evening and one that befits the tradition of Devizes Rugby Club balls.
