RONNIE MOORE (KING OF WIMBLEDON SPEEDWAY)
DINNER AT WIMBLEDON STADIUM
Sorry I have not written up a report on the Ronnie Moore Dinner earlier than tonight, this is due to me being really busy.
On Monday Night down at Plough Lane we had a EVENING WITH RONNIE MOORE, this was an absolutly FANTASTIC EVENING. It started of with Dave Croucher introducing the special Guests, of which many of them I have heard of but never had the chance to see ride ( 1950/1960 riders) along with some of the new 2002 team, ie, Gary Sweet, Jon Stevens, Martin Williams, Chris Hunt. Along with the special guests was Arthur Devereaux from the GRA.
I had the pleasure of having Martin Williams on the table that I was on.
After the Introductions had taken place we were served very professionally by the stadium staff our meal for the evening which was very nice aswell.
Once everyone had eaten, and all the plates had been cleared away, there was some speeches from some of the guests and the Mangement team.
The speeches started of with a speech from Mr Arthur Devereaux (GRA WIMBLEDON STADIUM), who proposed a toast TO THE HEALTH OF WIMBLEDON SPEEDWAY.
Next speech was from Steve Ribbons (Wimbledon Speedway Co-Chairman)who RESPONDED ON BEHALF OF WIMBLEDON SPEEDWAY.
Then was Dave CROUCHER ( Wimbledon Speedway Co-Chairman) prosed a toast to THE HEALTH OF THE GUESTS.
MR Reg Fearman (Past chairman BSPA Past President VSRA) then RESPONED ON BEHALF OF THE GUESTS.
MR Peter Lipscombe (Vintage Speedway Magazine) Then proposed a toast on THE HEALTH OF RONNIE MOORE MBE
And last but not least to conclude the speeches the floor was handed over to THE UNDISPUTED KING OF PLOUGH LANE DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPION THE LEGEND RONNIE MOORE MBE.
It was great to hear some great stories from some of the old riders who use to ride with Ronnie all those years ago.
After all the speeches had finished there was a Auction of many different memrobillia, including some Replica Race Jackets that Ronnie had worn, during World championships etc, along with 2 very specially engraved glasses with a picture of Ronnie on them, one of a kind. These glasses were autioned at over £300.
This was a very special evening and it conclded with the opportunity to take phots, and get autographs.
It was great to be part of a once in a life time experience.
AND TO MEET THE KING OF PLOUGH LANE ROONIE MOORE. RONNIE MOORE IS BACK IN TOWN
Ronnie Moore the GREATEST Wimbledon Legend arrived back at Heathrow Airport, at approximatley 19:15 this evening (Tuesday the 23rd of April 2002).
To welcome Ronnie back to the Uk and to welcome him home was around 40 Wimbledon Supporters most of us dressed in Red or Yellow.
I was on the Mini Bus going from Wimbledon and it was a pleasure to be able to participate in such a historic and once in a life time event.
As we were waiting for Ronnie Moore to come through the customs at the airport, a massive bright red banner was held up high, it said
"WELCOME HOME RONNIE MOORE. WIMBLEDON SPEEDWAY NUMBER ONE."
It also had a picture of Ronnie in the middle of the banner.
As Ronnie came through the gates "COME ON YOU DONS" was shouted and a large amount of clapping went on, Ronnie looked gobsmaked at the sea of Red and Yellow colours .
Ronnie was looking really well and seemed to really appreciate us all being there.
Photo's were being taken and Ronnie got down with the Children under the banner to have photo's taken with them.
It was a great evening one that I won't forget in a hurry.
At the end of the evening Dave Croucher Thanked everyone for coming to support this great event.
I hope to be able to upload some photo's of this evening onto the website by the end of this week.
