Lest we forget...........The Story of the Season 2000/01
Forest Inn Football Club, The newcomers to the league, The beginners, The amateurs, stamped their mark on Dorset Division IV North & East in a way that will never be forgotten.
Under the management of Craig Shepherd and the captaincy of Andrew Lacey they gave a seasons performance that brought them to within 1 point of winning the title at the end of the season.
It all started with a 4-3 win against Kingston Lacy in their first game, it was then we realised exactly what we had got in signing The King Mr Marky Wellman.
Forest progressed through the winter months with highlights from The Mixer "Kenny Wood" scoring a wonder goal to clinch the points away to TJ's (This was later to become goal of the season).
Away to Milton Abbas saw the captain lead his team to victory with a bullet header from the great man to again walk away with 3 points.
As Christmas turned the manager brought in some fresh new talent with the introduction of Davey "Cobbo" Corbin and Chrissy "Chrissy" Francis, they provided the much need push to take us up with the big boys.
The turning point for me was a fateful gate at home to Witchampton, 10 minutes into the game we gave away a penalty, Gree saved…….then we gave away an 18 yard free kick……..Gree saved…..
In the 5 minutes that followed saw Buffy one on one with their keeper…..he did n't miss….!!!
Buffy went on to make that his game of the season, again the three points were ours…
Around about February Johnny Hatt started to blossom and repaid the management's faith in him
March and April is famous for only one thing………….The Collapsing Door,,,,,(ask Neil White & Gree!!)
The first week of May saw the Forest clinch promotion with a 9-0 win over Stalbridge,,,,
