History

Orton Rangers Football Club were formed in 1991 by brothers Blain and Nick Parker initially as Peel Rangers (after their first sponsors) and started off in the Festival Afternoon League. They joined the Sutton & District Sunday League in 1994/95 and earned success in their first season by winning Division 5 and the Hine Cup where they beat Park Monday 3-0 at Mile Oak.

This was followed by further glory the following year when they won the Division 2 title in 1995/96. Rangers also reached another cup-final where they were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline against Aldridge at Sutton Town. After being promoted to the Premier League in 1996/97 they finished ninth in their first season with the big-boys.

In 1997/98 Orton ended up fifth and were again beaten at Sutton in a cup-final as they went down 2-1 to Jaguar Reds before almost finding the ultimate glory in the 1998/99 campaign. That year saw them mount a championship bid that pushed eventual winners Orion all the way. They also received runner's up medals in the esteemed Association of Midland Sunday Football Leagues Cup, where opposition from several leagues around the area were seen off before their dreams were crushed by Hampton F.C. in the final at the Ansells Sports and Social Ground in Perry Barr in April 99.

1999/2000
was another milestone in the history of the club - the creation of Orton Rangers Reserves . The side, a mixture of ageing ex-first teamers and promising youngsters did well to reach a cup final in their first season, losing 3-0 to Oak Rangers at Paget Rangers.  They began life in Division 4 of the Sutton League. The millennium season did not go as planned for the first team however, and Rangers found themselves fighting relegation in the absence and loss of several key players through injury, suspension and work commitments. They finished a disappointing seventh.

However Orton Rangers F.C. always bounce back with that famous spirit of theirs and they won the Challenge Cup on an unbelievable night in May 2000. Sutton Town was again the venue and Rangers conquered both their hoodoo at this ground and opponents St Marys by lifting the cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out. The following season 2000/2001 was the greatest in club history as Rangers achieved their ambition and lifted the coveted Premier shield. They won the league by 7 clear points from St Marys and managed to get to a cup final as well but were beaten 4-2 by Med Bar at Sutton Town. Orton Rangers Reserves were promoted to Division 3 at the end of the season.

The 2001/2002 season saw ORFC go from strength to strength as the champions went in defence of the title. They reeled off 8 wins in a row at the start of the season and went on to secure back-to-back championships as they left the Sutton league in style.  They also won through to the final of the Mansell Cup but were very unlucky to lose 3-1 to St George at Sutton Town in April 2002.

Orton Rangers Reserves
consolidated their positon in Division 3 after a fine finish to the season that saw them also reach a cup final only to go down 2-1 to Pheasey Reserves, again at the Sutton Town ground.
