Disappointment Continues
Andrew Gaertner  Tuesday, August 20, 2002  16:49 GMT

Another defeat for Kirklees Ladies against Bury, however playing with just 8 players Kirklees weren't embarrased despite an 8-0 defeat. Debutant Sam Clegg gave a good performance despite having only met the the team 2 hours before KO. Good performances by Sara Ginley in goal and also from Nicola Cartwright and Simone Lodge. All players gave all the effort they had and never gave up.
Disappointing Start
Andrew Gaertner  Monday, August 12, 2002  16:35 GMT

The Kirklees pre-season campaign kicked off with a disappointing start with a 9-0 defeat at Tameside. However Kirklees only had 9 players including 2 playing there 1st game of football. How ever there were many positives from the result, including a man-of-the-match award for Kirklees debutant Lyndsi Pearson and encouraging performances from new girls Kim Wenzel and Charlotte Edmondson. The effort from the girls was as ever commendable and it's a start. The team was:
Bleep Test Shock
Andrew Gaertner  Friday, August 09, 2002  15:14 GMT

Despite the voting strongly tipping Simone Lodge to win the August Bleep Test, there was a shock result. Nicola Cartwright won the test. Simone was carrying a thigh injury, but this doesn't discredit Nicola's effort well done Nicola. Other players who deserve a mention for improvents are Rachal Walker, Kim Wenzel, Chris Curry, Kath Baines.

Good but Dissappointing Day
Andrew Gaertner  Tuesday, July 30, 2002  17:21 GMT

On a boiling hot day, a 7:30am start, the Kirklees Ladies set off on to the Darlington RA 5-a-side tournament. The Magnificent Seven-Ginley, Cartwright, Stoves, Curry, Mahon, Walker, Lodge most were awake by the time we arrived 6 games were played but a drawn 3 lost 3 record didn't tell the story. Someone a few years ago suggested the goals be made bigger if so Simone Lodge would be a regular England international with the most unbeliveable scoring record, instead so rattles the post with amazing regularity. In fact the first 3 games play Simone hit the post after leaving defenders in her wake, but in her 4th game with her worst shot (usual story) she megged the keeper to score Kirklees only goal of the day. Kirklees were the only team to take points off Chester-le-Street in the group stages and only lost 1-0 to the free-scoring Kader (possible FA cup 2nd round opponentents). The club have also established new links with Darlington FC mens team and have been invited up to see them play in the near future. After a few drinks were drunk the team eventually left at 5:30. An enjoyable tournament which hopefully we will attend next year.
