U8's Beaten In Final Of Keresley 6 - Side
John Rusted  Sunday, June 23, 2002  23:40 GMT

We took a strong squad for the Keresley Colts 6 - side tournament, and managed to progress to the semi finals thanks to 1-0 wins against Arley Orange,Ash Green Reds & Keresley Colts1, all of our goals being scored by Matthew Tallett. The third group game pitched us against Coventry Jaguar and they realised they had to stop  Matthew, they did but only when he was hurt after a clash over the ball. A tight match was settled by a hopefull long shot which floated into the top corner, Jaguars only shot in the match. This result made us group runners up, so we played Ash Green Blues in the semi's. The longer match helped us and we ran out 4-0 winners thanks to a Chris Storey hat trick and another from Matthew Tallett. So to the re-match with the Jaguar lads, another close game. Bulkington hit the post early on and forced a string of corners but couldn't score to reward our early pressure. Jaguar eventually grabbed the winner, scoring from a tight angle after the Bulkington defence failed to clear the ball, again the only shot Jaguar had in the match. The final whistle brought  tears from our lads and loud cheers from the Jaguar players and supporters (revenge for our win at Grove Farm) but there is always the next time July the 28th to be exact.

U8's At Grove Farm 6-side
John Rusted  Tuesday, June 04, 2002  13:58 GMT

Sunday turned out to be a great surprise, as we had a weaker team than normal, the only seven players available being Adam Smith, Dan Rock, Tom Johnson, Jack Steele, Ryan Goodyer, Matthew Tallett & David Hewitt. We didn't expect great things but got off to a good start beating Grove Farm B 3-1 and followed that up with a 2-0 win over Coventry Jaguar. Coton Hammers A were then crushed 4-0 before a close match with Weddington Thistle A ended with a 1-0 win. We ended up winning the group with 12pts, the only U8's with a 100% record in either group. Grove Farm A were our semi final opponents but they proved too strong for us and won 3-0 and went on to play Yenton in the final. Congratulations to Matthew Tallett who scored 7 goals today and Tom Johnson who got the other 3, but well done to all the tream and the supportors at least we gave you something to cheer about.
