Weymouth Ladies Home Page

Way Back in 1988 at Weymouth Boys Club known as Steps Club for Young People a girls 5 a side team was formed by Anne Taylor & Ron Falkne. This emerged into a full 11 a side squad competing in the SouthWest League managed by Ron, and Anee as Secretary. The team gradually became stronger after about eight years of losing many games, but much enjoyment and fun was had by all. The team finally started winning, Yes WINNING! Something we were not used to. Times changed and we entered the Southern League with new management by Andy Baker and Anne our secretary was still with us as she always was through good and bad. 1997/98 season we became runners up in the southern league, 1998/99 season the pressure was on to win the league, we did very well for the fist half of the season then started taking winning for granted, the team became more relaxed and we were crowned champions of the Southern Regional League and runners up in the Dorset Cup second to none except Okeford Utd.

Sadly then things changed we lost nearly half our team due to pregnancy, lack of interest and we were unable to fulfil our promotion dream of playing in the Southern Premier League, Sometimes we wondered that if we hadn’t become successful then maybe the team wouldn’t have folded, so this time around we hope the people in the team can enjoy themselves appreciate winning a game and live and learn from losing. The result of a game depends on every player and most importantly Team Spirit Forever!!!!

WEYMOUTH LADIES II the reformation!
A few ex players of Weymouth FC joined other local teams, however some of us missed playing for our hometown. One Sunday morning we decided to do something about it and phoned the local echo and explained the situation they offered to help. A photo and article were put in the Dorset Evening Echo advertising for young/old experienced/inexperienced players. The response we received was enough to start training again at the end of last year a few of the old faces returned and many new younger faces. Then early in the new year we got in touch with the Dorset Women’s League, Anne our old Club Secretary and Dizzy our now Treasurer managed the paperwork and organising between them, and now once again we are playing in the league, and we believe we have the players to start building another great team. We just hope that this time it lasts!

We haven’t however made it without help along the way and these people we would like to thank. The Atlanta Hotel - Weymouth donated £150 so we could buy the basic equipment. The Park Hotel - Weymouth where a few of the girls hang out and work has offered to sponsor us and also provide refreshments for the home games. Alan Scott our Chairman also supports us every game and keeps us under control, because as yet we haven’t managed to find a Manager.

I hope this short history interested you and we hope that you will leave a message in our Guest Book we are always looking for other teams to play friendly match’s against, we also love to hear from other ladies teams and if your a football Manager in the Dorset area we are still without one! Please click on our guest book and leave a message we try to reply to all messages left.
