No Joy for New SkipperMartyn Wamsley Sunday, July 15, 2001 08:27 GMT
Hambos first game in charge ended in yet another defeat for Clavs First XI. With several regulars missing Clav allowed Stratford to knock up 202 for 8, a much higher score than their ability deserved.
Clavs reply started well and with 15 overs gone they were well ahead of the run rate, mainly due to Paynie who looked in fine form. As Paynie moved into the forties it looked like the 203 target was achievable. The opposing umpire must have thought the same as Paynie was given out to a very debatable lbw decision. From then on Clav collapsed in typical fashion only ex skipper CJ showing any resistance(28 runs from 27 overs).
