Ellerslie Lose 4 StraightJason Trowill Sunday, June 17, 2001 03:21 GMT The Ellerslie Mens Premier League side has suffered its 4th straight loss this time to the fast, young and determined Melville United Side. The score ended up 2-1 with Ellerslie unlucky in the last few minutes not to make it 2-2 with Nick Russo going unlucky twice. In only the 2nd minute Ellerslie were unlucky not to open their account when a superb Terry Torrens pass found Matthew Kelly with a good shooting chance only to see the ball go agonisingly close to the right post. In the 19th minute Number 15 Nikolai Helwig opening the scoring for Melville United when he had a one on one with Goalkeeper Evan Claxton. In the 35th minute Keeper Evan Claxton found himself in the referees book for a take out challenge on Nikolai Helwig where the young striker could of made it 2-0 but was brought down just outside the box and Evan was lucky to receive just a yellow. Just before the half time break Terry Torrens hit the cross bar with a good shooting chance - it just wasnt Ellerslie's day and this added insult to injury. Half time came the score Ellerslie 0 Melville United 1. In the 60th minute Coach Wittaveen made a double substitution bring on Nick Russo and Blair Lockton for Matthew Kelly and Peter Downer. The 66th minute saw Melville United stretch their lead to 2-0 when Solomon Island International Niki Ti Miki scored with a half clearance from Ellerslie defence. In the 68th Minute Nick 'Rava' Mennell couldnt kick a knock he received and was substituted for the return of the great Mike Horgan. A bad challenge on Blair Lockton saw Melville United Midfielder Grant Cooper go into the refs book in the 69th minute. Nick Russo opened Ellerslie's account in the 78th minute when a superb pass from Blair Lockton found the big Geordies head (couldnt really miss that head) Russo was so extactic with his goal gave the Melville United Keeper a big kiss on the head for his suportive words on the lines of "You couldnt score if you tried you Fat #uc#". In the 88th minute a moment of madness from already yellow carded Grant Cooper from Melville when they were awarded a free kick took an eternity to take the kick was given a red card by the referee for time wasting. Final score Ellerslie 1 Melville United 2 Player of the day for Ellerslie was Coach Dave Wittaveen who actually didnt even take the field. |
