Ellerslie 2 day one side played Hibiscus Coast at Michaels Ave no 2 on Saturday/Monday and put up a brave effort to lose first innings but tie the match. Ellerslie needed just 1 run off the last 2 overs to win the match but couldnt manage the feat with some good bowling from Hibiscus Coast.
Ellerslie batted first and scored 161 All Out with only 8 players having a bat. Top score went to Lloyd Chapman 53 and Richard Hayes 44. Hibiscus Coast 1st innings saw them score 219 All Out with a sensational bowling spell from speedster Darryl Morris taking 5-68 from 17 Overs and Almane Farman 3-22. In Ellerslie's 2nd bat the boys blazed 215 from 30 Overs with Ngamu Parata 41, Geoff Rogers 38 and Darryl Morris 28 doing most of the damage although 5 sixes were hit by various players. In reply Hibiscus Coast were dismissed for 159 All Out with Darryl Morris taking another 3 wickets and Dan Verma 2 wickets and long time serving player Geoff Rogers with his season spell taking 2-18 and fill in players Dion Gobie and Jeremy Skinner taking 1 each. A great day behind the stumps earned Lloyd Chapman an equal share of man of the match taking 5 catches to go along with Darryl Morris's 8 wickets. A great weekend for the lads shame about the 1st innings though.
