B TEAM WINS SHIELD/ DOUBLESteve Bingham Saturday, May 05, 2001 16:47 GMT
A very hard game against a useful Martlesham B team, saw the Saints struggle to create many clear cut chances. Jonathan Bingham had a good shot saved in the first half, and Ted Nichols had another tipped over the bar in the second period. The match went into extra time, and with still no scoring it was down to the penalty shoot out.
At the end of eight penalties each the score was 1-1, but Ted Nichols stepped up and scored in the sudden death, with Martesham hitting the post. A close run thing, but Saints deserved to win on the balance of play.
