First Match BluesMartyn Wamsley Sunday, May 06, 2001 07:58 GMT
With five regular first team players unavailable, lack of pre season practice and a damp pitch it was hardly surprising that Clav found their first league match difficult.
Despite the gloom there were some bright lights with newcomers Frans Gerber and Matt Underwood looking good additions to the club. The return of Wasem Ahmed after a three year absence another bonus.
Having only just finished playing on the the hard tracks back in his homeland of South Africa, Frans looked impressive on a soft damp pitch, top scoring with 23. Matts slow left arm bowling will be a welcome addition to predominate seam attack. Wasem not have having played for three years looked impressive with both bat and ball. Rich Parker chipped in with a fine 21.
Although Clav only had a small target to defend the bowlers went about the task well and did not make it easy for the Badsey batsmen who took 40 overs to get to the target.
