Ellerslie 1st Team go down again!!!!!

Jason Trowill  Sunday, June 24, 2001  04:07 GMT

Ellerslie Mens 1st team has lost their 5th straight game this time going down to 2nd bottom side East Coast Bays. It was a very scrappy affair with 4 yellow cards and was a game that East Coast Bays went out to win and did so. Ellerslie are now into the danger zone with only 11 points and have to make sure they get victories over Hamilton Wanderers, Three Kings and Manukau City if they lose these fixtures It could find them in the possibility of relegation. In the 1st half Ellerslie had some good shooting opportunitites from Nick Mennell, Terry Torrens and Robbie Allen who all went very very close to the target, Terry Torrens shot looked like a certainty but somehow missed. In the 39th minute Stephen Gove scored for East Coast Bays and this took them into half time with a 1-0 lead. It took only 5 minutes into the 2nd half and Stephen Gove scored his and East Coast Bays 2nd Goal. In the 60th minute Jonathan Chapman was substituted for Peter Downer to come and try and open up the East Coast Bays defence - Coach Dave Wittaveen had to pull all the right strings to bust East Coast Bays strong and robust defence. After a 73rd minute yellow card for ECB defender Rod Grove Coach Wittaveen made a double Substitution with Nathan Palmer and Nick 'Rava' Mennell coming off for Matthew Kelly and hard man Mike Horgan. The 81st and 83rd minutes saw 3 players go into the book ECB players Ric Sheehan and Richard Murray and Ellerslie's Matthew Kelly. The final whistle came and Ellerslie's nightmare was soon over final result ECB 2 Ellerslie 0. A rather dissapointing result for Ellerslie who have a hard time next week with a Wednesday and Saturday game against North Shore and Three Kings United respectively. A well deserving player of the day award went to Big Nick Russo for a solid and hard game up front. Good Luck to the lads for the next 2 rounds.
