It took 2 short, sharp spells from Over 30's Metropolitan star John Matthews to score his 1st ever league goal for Ellerslie AFC. In what was described by fellow team mates Stu Ritchie and Mike Laidlaw "a strike from a pure genius". After scoring his 1st goal Matthews was knackered and had to be substituted again but the team hung on to claim a 1-0 victory thanks to the single goal from Goal Scoring Supreme John Matthews.
