Dade Jnr Lifts Trophy At LastStuart Dade Monday, December 17, 2001 19:58 GMT
The long awaited presentation of the Elms 5-a-side One Night Cup (Crystal Palace) to Streatham North End finally took place last Thursday night, some 5 weeks after the triumphant night on which the yellows won the competition.
Streatham Skipper Andrew Dade led his players on to the podium, where he was handed his winner's medal along with the majestic trophy. The award was duly raised to heavens to the sound of cheering around the bar. Streatham players' wives and girlfriends were there to witness the team's proud moment. With only Luis Sandoval absent on the night, the rest of the squad collected their beautifully engraved medals and hung them, Jim'll Fix It style, around their respective necks.
The trophy is the second award in the history of teams under the Accies umbrella. In the Summer 2000 season, Effra Academicals were awarded the Fair Play trophy, a stylish engraved plaque. The Cup, a golden (but, in fairness, certainly not gold) affair, makes a most welcome addition to the metaphorical trophy cabinet. The cup will now embark on a tour of Streatham players' mantelpieces, starting of course at the home of Andrew Dade, the man who enjoyed the honour of collecting the trophy.
