An historic day at Old Hill on May 6th 2001

THE SCOREBOX, JUST TO PROVE IT HAPPENED

Another Bishops Castle wicket falls against Old Hill
Old Hill (away) ECB National Club Knockout 6/5/01 A Shropshire cricket clubs first foray into the ECB National Club Knockout is set to be their last?, after they sent everyone reaching for the record books with a colossal 354 run defeat. The clash proved to be a present day David v.Goliath as Bishops Castle took on Old Hill of the Birmingham Premier League. But there was to be no shock result with Old Hill powering their way to victory, leaving us with battered pride, as we were bowled out for 69 in reply to the home sides 423-4 off their 45 overs boosted by 214 from their Captain David Banks (ex Worcs & Warwickshire) We suffered a shocking collapse being 0-2 after the first over and 1-3 after 2 overs, we then rallied from 16-4 to 60-5 and then collapsed again, with no less than 6 ducks, top scorers were Stephen Morris with 24 and Simon Palmer with 11, our best bowling figures came from Ben Harvey with 3-62 off 5 overs, with the most economical being Simon Palmer who bowled his 9 overs for a miserly 51 which was considerably less expensive than the rest of the 'attack'. The other wicket taker who took our first ever wicket in the Competition was Rhys Davies. The turning point may well have been when Ed 'donut' Williams dropped Banks when he was on 88, but then again it probably didn't make much difference. Afterwards a very sociable evening was had by all, a highlight of the day was our local bookie 'NANU' offering 40 runs as our score, and there were 2 smiling faces as they picked up their 25p a run for every run above this total ( Fred & Minor).
