BENTLEY NOW A VIKING!

Steve Harland  Friday, May 04, 2001  21:26 GMT

FORMER Boro Bears captain PAUL BENTLEY has finally found a team to ride for in his testimonial season.

The Darlington-based postman (not Hartlepool as Keith Hamblin keeps reporting in the Speedway Star) has joined Premier League Hull Vikings, re-uniting with former Middlesbrough promoter Malcolm Wright and teammate Mike Smith.

'Banger' had originally been left out of the Berwick team at the beginning of the season but the green sheet averages (after six meetings) saw Bandits promoter Peter Waite atempt to resign him and redeclare his line-up to fit in with the averages. Unfortunately the BSPA stopped Berwick re-signing him due to a loosely worded agreement that means riders who rode for clubs last season cannot be re-signed to strengthen up.

As soon as Hull knew he was available Eric Boocock the Vikings team manager snapped him up for a second spell at Craven Park.
